Bulldogs hold off Richwood for first win

MILL CREEK -- Jaxon Drennen threw three touchdown passes including the game-winner late in regulation as Tygarts Valley edged Richwood for a 25-24 win Friday night on homecoming at Bulldog Field.

With the Lumberjacks (0-6) clinging to a 24-19 lead in the fourth quarter, Drennen connected with Adam Woods on a bubble-screen for a 36-yard touchdown with 4:01 remaining in regulation to give the Bulldogs (1-5) the win.

After the go-ahead score, Richwood received the ball back with under four minutes to play and reached midfield before the Tygarts Valley defense made a stop on a fourth-and-eight play with :35 seconds left to preserve the win.

After a long kickoff return from Adam Woods to start the game, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead when Drennen completed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Woods.

The Lumberjacks took an 8-6 lead with 3:18 to play in the opening quarter when Tyler Barnhouse broke free for a 55-yard touchdown run. Landen Hamon threw a pass to Dakota Sizemore for the two-point conversion.

Tygarts Valley regained the lead late in the opening stanza when Kaiden Warner scampered in for a 24-yard touchdown to make it 13-8.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 19-8 with 4:20 to play in the half when Drennen threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Austin Gear.

Richwood cut the deficit to 19-16 just before the half when Barnhouse scored on a 15-yard run with four seconds remaining.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Lumberjacks took a 24-19 lead with 9:11 remaining in the contest when Braiden Hayhurst ran in the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown.

Drenning finished the contest 6 of 10 passing for 113 yards to lead the Tygarts Valley offense. Barnhouse was a workhorse for Richwood, carrying the ball 38 times for 260 yards.

The Bulldogs will return to action next Friday when they travel to Pendleton County.

The Lumberjacks entertain Wyoming East the same evening.
