Elkins, B-U renew rivalry on the pitch

Girls battle to draw; Snyder nets two goals to lead B-U boys to win

TENNERTON -- Elkins and Buckhannon-Upshur renwed their rivalry on the pitch Wednesday night at Ted Crites Memorial Stadium at Tom Hasbrouck Field.

In the girls match, the squads battled to a 2-2 draw as the Lady Bucs struck for a goal with 9 minutes left in regulation to draw even at 2-2.

The Lady Tigers carried a 1-0 lead into the intermission on Audrina Shelton's score with 10 minutes left in the first half.

B-U (11-5-4) tied the game early into the second half before Layla Fletcher answered for Elkins with 20 minutes left in regulation.

"The girls did a great job tonight and battled the whole game," Lady Tigers coach Scott Cutright said. "We had a lot of kids step up tonight and I'm really proud of their effort."

Hannah Boyles and Mallory Hughes had the Lady Bucs' goals on the night.

Elkins (11-3-3) entertains Big 10 leader Philip Barbour at 3 p.m. on Saturday for a key tilt.

"We are going to try and stay unbeaten in the conference on Saturday," Cutright said.

Timothy Snyder had a pair of goals to lead B-U (6-11-3) to a 3-1 win in the boys contest.

Trailing 2-0, the Tigers cut the deficit in half on Andrew Tesar's score with 9 minutes left to play.

Riel Figueroa tacked on an insurance goal for B-U.

"We found ourselves down in the first half and struggled to find a goal," Cutright said. "We lost the momentum in the second half, but still kept working hard despite being down two goals.

"We ultimately came up a little short this game but still proud of the effort."

EHS (5-6-5) hosts Notre Dame at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
