PARKERSBURG -- With Week 9 of the high school football season upon us, Philip Barbour and Tucker County look to move up as high as they can in the WVSSAC playoff ratings or maintain the top spot in the Mountain Lions' case.
The Colts, despite a 63-19 win over Robert C. Byrd, fell from eighth to 10th in this week's ratings released on Tuesday afternoon.
Philip Barbour, however, has an opportunity to once again be in contention for at least one home playoff game -- the top eight in each class host first-round games -- as the Colts (6-1) travel to Class AA, No. 11 Lewis County this Friday night, host No. 14 Lincoln the following week and visit Class AAA opponent Preston to conclude the regular season.
Philip Barbour has never hosted a playoff game in school history.
Tucker County, meanwhile, remained No. 1 in Class A after being on a bye week.
The Mountain Lions (7-0) end the regular season with three straight home games, with Smithsburg (Md.) visiting on Friday night for homecoming and Petersburg and triple-A school Hampshire to follow.
The other top teams in this week's ratings are defending state champion Huntington in Class AAA and Roane County in the double-A ranks.
East Hardy, which visits No. 14 Doddridge County on Friday night, is eighth is Class A.
