PETERSBURG -- A cold night from the charity stripe plagued Class AA, No. 9 Petersburg in a 42-39 setback to Moorefield on Tuesday night.
The Lady Vikings (2-1) connected on just six of 25 attempts from the free-throw line.
Nellie Whetzel had 20 points to lead Petersburg, which led 21-15 at halftime before the Lady Yellow Jackets took the third frame, 13-7, to draw even at 28-28 entering the final quarter of action.
The Lady Vikings return to action at 7 p.m. Friday at Williamstown.
Moorefield is also 2-1 on the young season and is scheduled to entertain Pendleton County on the same evening for a Potomac Valley Conference contest.
