ELKINS -- Davis & Elkins will go into the new year with an 8-3 mark after pulling away in the second half to get past Slippery Rock, 94-85, Thursday night inside the McDonnell Center.
The Senators will be idle until visiting Slippery Rock on Jan. 8 for a rematch.
Vadim Clanet led the way on Thursday for D&E with 24 points and seven rebounds, followed by Sam Rolle IV with 20 points and eight assists, Clarens Pierre with 14 points and nine caroms and Tristan Starks with 11 points.
The contest was tied at 49-49 at halftime before the Senators scored the first four points of the second half and never trailed again.
The Rock (1-6) continued to battle, however, as D&E was unable to lead in double digits until a pair of free throws by Clanet made it 94-83 with just :34 left to play.
Luke Howes poured in a career-high 21 points to lead Slippery Rock, followed by Maceo Austin with 20 points.
Ja'Mier Fletcher chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds and Sheick Samoura and Ike Herster 10 points apiece.
