BRIDGEPORT — The Elkins High School girls captured the Big 10 Conference title Saturday at The Bridge Sports Complex.
The Lady Tigers racked up 249 points to outdistance runner-up Bridgeport’s 175 points.
Fairmont Senior (108) was third, followed by Philip Barbour (86), Buckhannon-Upshur (64), East Fairmont (62), Grafton (60), Liberty (51), Lincoln (24), North Marion (14) and Robert C. Byrd (13).
Emily Durst, Lilly Irons, Lilly Anger and Rachel Shryock broke the Big 10 mark in the 400 freestyle in a time of 3:48.17 for EHS.
The old mark of 3:54.06 was set by the Lady Tiger state-title winning unit of Samantha Hall, Christa Varner, Kayla Gainer and Delaney Johnson in 2012.
Shryock continued her strong senior season for Elkins as she captured both the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:02.23 and the 500 freestyle (5:33.46).
Shryock also joined Emma Ujvagi, Lilly Irons and Lilly Anger is swimming to first in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:58.41, just missing setting a Big 10 record by two seconds.
Ujvagi, Leah Ours, Raighan Carte and Sophia Hornick also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:53.09.
Ujvagi also won two individual titles — the 100 breaststroke (1:13.25) and 200 IM (2:26.65), while Durst was first in the 100 backstroke (1:08.81).
Taking seconds were Durst in the 200 freestyle (2:08.73), Anger in the 50 freestyle (25.99) and Irons in the 100 butterfly (1:04.59).
Philip Barbour’s MacKenna Halfin won the 50 freestyle in 25.67 and was runner-up in the 100 freestyle (57.80).
Isaac Anger shattered the Big 10 record in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:43.84 to pace the EHS boys to a third-place showing in the team standings. The junior also claimed the 100 breaststroke in 1:0049.
Anger holds the Big 10 record in the 100 breaststroke, setting it with a time 59.98 as a freshman.
He teamed with Andres Masten, Brian Jones and Ashton White to place second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.11) and the same unit was third in the 200 medley relay (1:53.32).
Masten posted thirds in the 100 butterfly (1:03.01) and 100 backstroke (1:05.80).
Carter Zuliani was third in both the 100 freestyle (55.78) and 50 freestyle (23.00) for B-U.
Bridgeport claimed the league crown with 288 points.
RCB (152), EHS (114), Fairmont Senior (112), Philip Barbour (72), B-U (44), North Marion (28). Grafton (28) and East Fairmont (1) rounded out the team scoring.
Elkins, B-U and Philip Barbour will all return to The Bridge at 11 a.m. Saturday for the Region III Championships.
