EHS girls capture Penguin Invitational

Lady Tigers sweep relay events, Shryock wins two events in competitive 13-team meet; Anger leads boys

PARKERSBURG -- The Elkins High School girls claimed first in the 13-team Penguin Invitational held on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers remained perfect on the season, accumulating 293 points to outdistance runner-up and Big 10 Conference foe Bridgeport (202.5), Parkersburg (168) and four-time defending state champion George Washington (168).

Elkins claimed first in the 200-yard medley relay as Rachel Shryock, Emma Ujvagi, Lilly Irons and Lilly Anger turned in a time of 1:58.17, and the same group took the 400 freestyle relay with an effort of 3:54.79.

Shryock also swam to first in the 200 freestyle (2:03.59) and 500 freestyle (5:39.01), while Ujvagi claimed the 200 IM (2:24.32) and Anger the 50 freestyle (26.22).

The 200 freestyle relay of Leah Ours, Raighan Carte, Sophia Hornick and Emily Durst was first in a time of 1:53.55.

Ujvagi (1:14.35) and Anger (1:18.41) were second and third, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke.

The EHS boys placed eighth with 65 points among the nine-team field.

Parkersburg South tallied 330 points to finish first.

Isaac Anger captured the 100 breaststroke (1:00.31) and placed second in the 50 freestyle (22.07) behind an out-of-state-opponent to pace the Tigers.
