Elkins High girls post another win at Mylan Park

Shryock, Ujvagi win two events at site of next month’s state meet; Anger leads EHS boys to second

MORGANTOWN -- The Elkins High School girls swim team has now won two meets this season at the Mylan Park Aquatic Center -- the site of next month's state meet.

The Lady Tigers racked up 75 points to defeat Morgantown (58), University (33) and North Marion (4) on Wednesday evening.

Rachel Shryock and Emma Ujvagi each captured two events and were part of the winning 200-medley relay, along with Lilly Irons and Lilly Anger, which turned in a time of 2:00.25.

Shryock claimed the 200 freestyle (2:04.09) and 500 freestyle as her time of 5:37.1 was 24 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Ujvagi won the 200 IM (2:23.22) and 100 breaststroke (1:15.05).

Anger, meanwhile, captured the 50 freestyle (26.31) and was second in the 100 butterfly (1:08.90) and Irons posted runner-up finishes in the 200 IM (2:24.99) and 100 freestyle (55.81).

Ujvagi, Raighan Carte, Sophia Hornick and Leah Ours placed second in the 200 freestyle relay with an effort of 1:53.70 -- just behind University's time of 1:53.39.

Isaac Anger led the EHS boys with first-place showings in the 500 freestyle (5:01.06) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.25) in dominating fashion.

Anger won the 500 freestyle by 38 seconds and the 100 breaststroke by 16 ticks.

He also joined Andres Masten, Brian Jones and Ashton White in taking the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:40.00.

Masten swam to second in both the 100 butterfly (1:03.58) and 100 backstroke (1:04.78).

The Tigers finished second in the team standings with 77 points. Morgantown (77) was first, University (33) third, Weir (10) fourth and North Marion (3) fifth.

Elkins will now turned its focus to the Big 10 Conference Championships set for Saturday at The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport, followed by the regional meet at the same location on Saturday, Feb. 3.

The state meet takes place Feb. 15-16.
