HAMBLETON -- Ericka Zirk's layup off a rebound with just five seconds left in regulation lifted Class A, No. 3 Tucker County to a 51-49 hard-fought victory over Petersburg on Friday night.
The Lady Mountain Lions trailed the entire game before Zirk's basket.
"Give Petersburg credit," Tucker County coach Dave Helmick said. "They outplayed us for most of the game, but I'm proud of my girls to keep fighting and hanging in the game until the end."
The Lady Vikings (11-8) led 18-11 after one quarter and carried a 29-25 advantage into the break.
They extended the margin to 43-36 after three quarters before being outscored 15-9 in the final canto.
Zirk ended the night with 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots for the Lady Mountain Lions, while Brylee Wetzel tossed in a team-high 15 points and Macy Helmick dished out four assists and collected two steals.
Miley Tingler had 15 points for Petersburg, followed by Sam Colaw with 14 and Nellie Whetzel with 10.
Tucker County returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against Pendleton County.
The Lady Vikings entertain Keyser on Monday.
