Lady Vikings pull away from Frankfort to capture sectional

PETERSBURG -- Top-seed Petersburg pulled away in the final quarter to defeat No. 2 Frankfort, 54-33, in the Class AA, Region II, Section 1 championship game on Friday night.

The Lady Vikings (14-9) will now entertain Braxton County at 7 p.m. in one co-regional final.

The Lady Falcons (4-19) visit section 2 champion Trinity in the other co-regional contest.

Petersburg took a 15-10 lead into the intermission in Friday's game and led 31-25 after three quarters.

The Lady Vikings then outscored Frankfort, 21-8, in the final quarter to pull away.

Nellie Whetzel had seven of her 11 points in the fourth quarter for Petersburg.

Abby Alt also hit for 11 points in the win.

Brooklyn Klavuhn had a game-high 14 points for the Lady Falcons.
