Area players earn Class AAA all-state honors

CHARLESTON -- For the second straight season, Philip Barbour's Braylyn Sparks has earned a spot on the Class AAA all-state first team, as selected by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
Sparks helped lead the Lady Colts to three straight state tourney appearances.
She led Philip Barbour with 12.1 points per game, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game.
Twin sister Arrington Sparks landed on the second team.
The Sparks sisters were also all-stater first teamers in soccer this past season.
Philip Barbour had four players on the honorable-mention list. They include seniors LaDonna Herron and Jorjalynn Ward and freshmen Rylee Bodkins and Izzy Knotts.
Elkins High School senior point guard Gracelin Corley, who went over 1,000 points for her career this season in helping the Lady Tigers win a sectional title, was also an honorable-mention choice.
The Big 10 Conference comprised four of the eight first-team selections, with East Fairmont's Kenly Rogers being the captain of the group.
Rogers and Braylyn Sparks were joined by Lincoln's Ashlyn Riley and Lewis County's Ella Pinkney.
Rogers finished second in the school's all-time scorer list with 1,451 points, trailing only Darcie Vincent's mark of 2000. She led the Lady Bees in scoring with 18.4 points per game while adding 4.3 rebounds per game, 4 assists per game and 3 steals per game.
Pinkney, a junior, averaged a double-double of 14 points, 10.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game for state runner-up Lewis County.
Riley's average of 25.3 points per game led the state regardless of class.
The remainder of the first unit is comprised if Natalie Smith of state champion Nitro, Ripley's Sophie Nichols, Wayne's Brooke Adkins and Sissonville's Kynna Britton.
Smith, a junior, averaged 15.9 points per game for the state champion Lady Wildcats.
Nichols, a senior, averaged 22.2 points per game, while Adkins a junior, averaged 15.1 points per game and eight rebounds and Britton, a junior, hit for 22.7 points per game and five rebounds for the Lady Indians.
Lewis County's Kenna Maxwell captains the second team as the Minutemaids' leading scorer, averaging 16 points per game. She is joined by PikeView's Riley Meadows, North Marion's Emma Freels, Robert C. Byrd's Martina Howe, Keyser's Bibs Felton, East Fairmont's Brooklyn Shupe, Wayne's Jayce Sammons and Arrington Sparks.
