Mountain Lions roar into semifinals

Lycliter tosses in 22 points in quarterfinal victory over St. Joseph’s

CHARLESTON -- Class A, top-seed Tucker County used 22 points and 13 rebounds from Ashton Lycliter to roar past eighth-seed Huntington St. Joseph's, 66-41, Wednesday night in quarterfinal action at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.

The Mountain Lions (21-3) will now face Webster County at 11:15 a.m. Friday in the semifinals. The Highlanders, who lost to Tucker County during the regular season, knocked off defending champion James Monroe, 55-53, on a dramatic shot at the buzzer in Wednesday's late game.

Lycliter, a 6-foot-4 senior, hit 11 of 12 of his shots from the floor.

Trevan Bonner followed with 14 points and Garrett Wilfong added 13 off the bench.

Micaiah Ehirim led the Irish (17-7) with 14 points.

The Mountain Lions led 18-11 after one quarter and built a double-digit lead after a jumper by Bonner and a trey from Ethan Rosenau made it 23-11 with 6:29 left in the first half.

St. Joseph's never came within 10 points the remainder of the contest as the lead swelled to 35-15 at the half when Wilfong hit from beyond the arc with less than a minute left in the quarter.

Tucker County held a 43-21 rebounding edge.

Maddox Anderson added nine assists in the win.
