Van Tassell lifts Cameron over Lady Warriors

CHARLESTON — Eighth-seed Pocahontas County battled top-seed Cameron for the first two quarters in Wednesday night’s Class A quarterfinal matchup inside the Coliseum & Convention Center.
But the two-time defending champions took control in the second half to post a 64-27 victory to advance to Friday’s semifinal round.
The Lady Warriors fell behind 19-3 after one quarter but outscored the Lady Dragons, 13-11, in the second to cut the lead to 30-16 at halftime and remain in striking range.
However, Cameron (21-5) and all-stater 6-foot-2 center Ashlynn Van Tassell were too much in the second half, outscoring Pocahontas County 34-11 over the final two frames.
Van Tassell finished with 29 points to go along with 25 rebounds and six steals on the night.
Ashlee Dobbs chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds and Emilee Dobbs six points and five assists.
Riley Pollack paced Pocahontas County with nine points and Calli Propst added 11 rebounds.
The Lady Warriors ended the season 13-13 under head coach Mike Kane.
