FRANKLIN -- The red-hot shooting of Chase Owens was too much for Tygarts Valley to overcome on Friday night.

The sophomore fired in 35 points, including nine 3-pointers, to lead Pendleton County to a 55-41 win in the Class A, Region II, Section 2 title game.

The Wildcats (13-9) will now host section 1 runner-up East Hardy and the Bulldogs (10-11) visit top-ranked and section 1 champion Tucker County at 7 p.m. Tuesday in co-regional play.

Tygarts Valley trailed 13-9 after one quarter and 26-18 at halftime.

The Bulldogs cut the margin to 30-29 midway through the third quarter before Owens took over.

He drained back-to-back treys to push the lead back out to 38-29, and then hit two free throws with five seconds remaining in the canto to give Pendleton County a 40-30 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

The lead swelled to 13 points but Tygarts Valley answered with four straight points from Ethan McGee to get within 45-36 with 6 minutes to go in regulation.

The Bulldogs, however, came no closer as the Wildcats closed the game on a 10-5 run.

"We missed several easy (scoring) opportunities tonight," TV coach Tom Wamsley said.

McGee led the Bulldogs with 19 points, followed by Jacob Wamsley with 14.

Josiah Kimble chipped in eight for Pendleton County.
