EHS track teams compete in Mountaineer Showcase

MORGANTOWN -- The Elkins High school track and field Teams participated in the Mountaineer Showcase at Mylan Park over the weekend.
The EHS boys took a fourth-place finish with a score of 83.5 points, trailing University (99), Indian Hill (Ohio) (132) and Morgantown (167).
First-place finishers for the Tigers were the 4×100 relay team of JJ Cepeda, Nick Bowers, Caleb Ray and Demarcus Franklin with a time of 46.73, Ben Tenney in the 3,200 (9:46.59) and the 4×110 shuttle hurdles relay of Andres Masten, Jayden Harding, Logan Rowan and Cepeda (1:11.74).
Ray also took third in the 200 (23.57), while Franklin took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet 8 and 1/2 inches. For the second meet in a row the boys pole vaulters scored nine points for the team. Brian Jones and Chiron Wing tied for fifth at 8-6 and Preston Nixon was seventh (8-0).
The Lady Tigers finished seventh with a score of 28 points.
The top three were Morgantown (173), University (151) and Indian Hill (Ohio) (154).
Top finishers for Elkins were the 4×400 relay in the second place in a time of 4:26.77. The unit was comprised of Emilia Tenney, Mallory Bennett, Julia Biola and Ziah George.
Tenney was fourth in the 800 (2:28.10), Delia White fourth in the 3,200 (13.51.54) as well as Biola, George, Bennett and Tenney in the distance medley relay in a time of 13:39.71.
"Coach Biola, Coach Patrick and I were once again pleased with the performances of our teams against some stiff competition", said EHS boys coach Shane Richardson.
"We have now arrived at the most important three- meet stretch of our season. The Big 10 Conference Championships, the regional championship and the state championship is what we have been working toward all season. It's time to see what we are made of."
Elkins returns to action Tuesday in the Big 10 Conference Championship at Robert C. Byrd High School.
Field events are slated to begins at 1 p.m., with track events following at 2 p.m.
