Poor weather has kept area teams off the diamond

ELKINS -- Several area schools enjoyed spring break this week.
Unfortunately, so did action on the baseball and softball fields due to the weather.
Games were either postponed or canceled throughout the week, with torrential rain creating massive flooding and a mixture of snow hitting the area Wednesday evening.
The Elkins High School baseball team had three games scrubbed this week -- road contests against Grafton and Pendleton County, and a home tilt vs. East Fairmont.
The Tigers, who are 2-2 on the season, last played March 28, defeating Robert C. Byrd in extra innings.
Philip Barbour and Tygarts Valley, meanwhile, have also been idle for more than a week.
The Colts last played a week ago against Tucker County, and the Bulldogs' last contest was March 28 at Trinity.
Buckhannon-Upshur and Tucker County were the lone local teams to see action so far this week, as the Bucs are competing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the Mountain Lions visited Moorefield on Thursday evening.
The Bucs have played four games and are scheduled to face Bourbon County (Ky.) today to conclude their spring trip.
Like baseball, softball games all week were also postponed or canceled.
Elkins and Philip Barbour both were on the diamond last Thursday.
NEW ALIGNMENTS: On the subject of prep sports, the WVSSAC has released sectional and regional alignments for the next four years, beginning in the school year 2024-25, for volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball, as four classes will be in place for those sports.
In AAAA, B-U will be in Region I, Section 2 with Preston and University.
Elkins, East Fairmont, Fairmont Senior and Grafton comprise Class AAA, Region I, Section 2.
Philip Barbour is paired with Moorefield, Petersburg and Liberty-Harrison in Class AA, Region II, Section 1, while Tygarts Valley, Harman, Pendleton County and Pocahontas County comprise Class A, Region II, Section 2 and Tucker County, East Hardy, Paw Paw and Union make up the Section 1 portion.
