Tigers fall short to Fairmont Senior

Ours accounts for four RBIs to lead Polar Bears, 10-3

ELKINS -- Dylan Ours drove in four runs as Fairmont Senior claimed a 10-3 win over Elkins Wednesday evening in Big 10 Conference play at EHS Field.

Ours went 4 for 5 for the Polar Bears, while Hayden Jones, Tyler Veltri and Cam Peschl all collected multiple hits.

Caleb McCauley was tagged with the loss for the Tigers. He allowed three runs on four hits over 3 1/3 innings, striking out four and walking four.

Jones took the win, giving up six hits, fanning seven and walking six in going the distance.

Ethan Humphrey's double drove in Brock Holland in the bottom of the first to give Elkins a 1-0 cushion.

Fairmont Senior took a 2-1 lead in the third on Logan Canfield's RBI sacrifice fly and a run-producing single by Ours.

Canfield added another run-scoring sacrifice fly in the fourth, increasing the advantage to 3-1, then an RBI double by Jones in the fifth and an RBI single by Veltri made it 5-1.

The Polar Bears tacked on three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh.

The Tigers plated a pair of runs in the seventh on a double steal that scored Michael Love and Lincoln Scott's RBI sacrifice fly, which allowed Brayden Biller to race home.

Humphrey had two hits to pace Elkins.

Alex Broschart, Holland and Drew Hinzman also saw time on the hill for the Tigers.

Broschart and Hinzman had two strikeouts apiece.

Elkins is now 4-8 and will visit Robert C. Byrd at 6 p.m. today, before returning home Monday to battle Buckhannon-Upshur.

Fairmont Senior improved to 14-5 on the season and is slated to visit Williamstown on Friday.
