Colts move to driver’s seat in sectional play

PHILIPPI -- Top-seed Philip Barbour took the driver's seat in the Class AA, Region II, Section 1 tournament with a 16-6 win over Lincoln on Wednesday night.
The Colts (16-10) will now host the winner of the loser's bracket on Saturday in the first sectional title game, needing just one win to clinch the crown.
Lincoln, meanwhile, hosts the winner of today's Liberty at Elkins contest on Friday in the loser's bracket finale.
Seven different Philip Barbour players recorded two RBIs each -- Kale Wolfe, Landyn Carpenter, Albert Gonzales, Anthony Mosesso, Kent Rowan, Slaton Harris and Nick Gonzales.
Wolfe had three hits.
Grant Harris worked 3 2/3 innings of relief for the Colts, allowing no runs on two hits and fanning two.
Wolfe got the start, going 2 1/3 innings and surrendering six runs, just three earned, on five hits.
Jaxson Poe had three RBIs for the Cougars, who scored three runs in the first, before the Colts responded with eight in the home-half of the inning.
