Tucker’s Katie Hicks accustomed to competing at state level
Senior runner and teammates set for this weekend’s track and field championships at Laidley Field in Charleston

CHARLESTON -- Katie Hicks will see her athletic career at Tucker County conclude at this weekend's state meet being held at held at Laidley Field.
Hicks, who has signed to run cross country and compete in track and field at Glenville State, is no stranger in competing at the state level.
She was a member of the Lady Mountain Lion basketball team, which has made the state tournament and unprecedented 20 straight years, while also qualifying for the state cross country meet during her career.
Hicks placed 12th in the state meet in the fall.
Her twin sister, Addie Hicks, signed to play softball for the Lady Pioneers as well.
Katie Hicks will compete in Charleston in the 400 and join sophomores Mayah Gross and Addi Moats, along with freshman Lela Wright, in the 4×400 relay.
The unit placed second in the Class A, Region II meet in a time of 4:26.77.
Wright also qualified in the 100 and 100 hurdles.
The Tucker County boys will be represented by sophomore Nate Ricottilli in the 400.
He's also a member of the 4×800 relay with freshman Logan Kopec and sophomores Lynk Suesli and Alex Collar. The unit earned a state berth by placing third in regionals.
The shuttle hurdle unit of Kopec, junior Ryan Scott, freshman Liam Davis and Collar also earned an at-large berth with their regional time.
Collar could also earn an at-large berth in the pole vault.
The state meet begins at 2 p.m. Friday and concludes on Saturday evening.
