MADISON -- Tygart Valley and Belington-Barbour County begin Little League 10-12-year-old state tournament action today.
Madison and Chapmanville are the hosts for the double-elimination tourney.
In the Mountaineer Division, District 8 champion Tygart Valley will be joined by District 6 runner-up Moorefield, District 2 runner-up Chapmanville, District 3 champion Hurricane, District 4 champion Central Greenbrier, District 1 runner-up Huntington and District 5 runner-up Fairmont.
Tygart Valley will play Central Greenbrier at 4:30 p.m. today at Chapmanville.
Chapmanville and Hurricane tangle at 2 p.m. and Huntington and Fairmont at 7 p.m.
Moorefield received the first-round bye.
Members of the Tygart Valley squad include Jace Blackburn, Brentley Watson, Aiden Latham, Waiyden Key, Mason Davis, Bentlee Johns, Harley Haller, Remington Warner, Kaden Tingler, Holden Sharp, Blake Channell and Kendall Fitzgerald.
District 8 runner-up Belington-Barbour County, making its first appearance in the 10-12-year-old state tourney in nearly 40 years, will compete in the Herd Division, along with District 2 champion Madison, District 3 runner-up Charleston Central, District 5 champion Clarksburg, District 6 champion Mineral County, District 4 runner-up Princeton and District 1 champion Barboursville.
Belington-Barbour County battles Barboursville at 7 p.m. today, while Charleston Central meets Clarksburg at 2 p.m. and Madison squares off against Princeton at 4:30 p.m.
Mineral County has the first-round bye.
Belington-Barbour County team members include Maddix Weese, Eli Bolyard, Callen Cherok, Rustyn Harris, Cordell Blake, Landon Wolfe, Cooper Ryan, Jaymin Harris, Braxton Collins, Carter Morrison, Scott Wright, Easton Workman and Silas Morgan.
The tourney continues through July 24, with the champion advancing to regional action.
