WHEELING -- Elkins tied for ninth in the WVGA High School Invitational held Tuesday over the Jones Course at Oglebay.

The event was part of the Callaway Series, with the Tigers competing in their third one of the early season today at Stonewall Resort.

The Tigers turned in a 30-over-par 248 team-score, along with Morgantown.

Cabell Midland had a 9-over-par 222 to win the 31-team invitational.

Hurricane (13-over 226), Winfield (24-over 237) and Parkersburg South (26-over 239) followed, with Linsly, Wheeling Central and University tying for fifth with 27-over par 240s.

Petersburg (38-over 251) was 12th, Pocahontas County (66-over 279) tied for 24th and Philip Barbour (97-over 310) was 29th.

"We have seniors that are experienced and (that’s) a great thing to have," EHS coach Dave Baird said. "They can have a bad hole, but have the maturity to realize that they can bounce back and not stress out.

"Lucas D'Angelo, who led the team with an 82, took an eight on the second hole par four. Instead of stressing out, he bounced back and went two-under on the next three holes."

Dylan Hinzman and Drew Hinzman followed D'Angelo with 83s, while DJ Louk carded a 101.

Cabell Midland's Jack Michael fired a 4-under 67 to claim low-medalist honors.

Traeh Grassi led Philip Barbour with a 95, 24-over par, which tied for 79th.
