EMS soccer teams to host WI tonight

ELKINS -- The Elkins Middle School girls and boys soccer teams will be at home today against Washington Irving.

The EMS girls are 1-0-1 on the season after claiming a 6-0 win over Lincoln on Monday. The Lady Hornets also tied Barbour County in the season opener.

Grace Fletcher had a hat trick for Elkins in Monday's win over Lincoln. Kendall Ward, Railen Plaugher and Evelynn Wing also had goals.

Fletcher and Collier each had assists.

"Our girls were hungry for a win and they came out today and played a complete game with no let down." Lady Hornets coach Jamie Hughes said.

The EMS boys, meanwhile, defeated Barbour County, 7-2, last week in their opener.

Luke Valentine had four goals for the Hornets. Kolton Ward, Eli Bennett and Samuel Belan also found the back on the net.

Assists came from Valentine, Eli Smith, Benson Fortney and Kipton White.

"We are proud of the effort these boys played with and are happy with the start of our season," EMS coach Ariel Valentine said.

The EMS boys take the field first at 6 p.m. today at Elkins High School, followed by the girls at 7:30 p.m.
