Lady Tigers perform well in tournament

ELKINS -- First-year Elkins High School volleyball coach Richard O'Neill is excited about his team's outlook early into the season.

"We are playing some good volleyball," he said. "We have played the good teams on our schedule tough and had a good performance over the weekend."

The Lady Tigers advanced to the semifinal of tourney at Sissonville on Saturday, falling to Poca.

"We gave (Poca) a good match and were in it," O'Neill said.

Maura O'Neill had nine ace serves, Maddi Zirkle three and Jasmine Workman two in the tournament.

Elkins had split a pair of Big 10 Conference matches on Thursday, dropping a verdict to host Bridgeport and defeating Lincoln.

The Lady Tigers return to the court Tuesday at Preston. The next home game is set for Sept. 24 against Tucker County.
