FAIRMONT -- Luke Valentine scored a pair of goals to lead the Elkins Middle School boys to a 2-1 win over West Fairmont on Monday evening.
Valentine started the scoring 25 minutes into the match, scoring after receiving a throw-in from Wyatt Chenoweth.
Wes Fairmont answered a minute later on a goal from Brandt Petonick.
With just 3 minutes left to play, Valentine scored from a negative ball at the top of the box from Eli Bennett.
"I couldn't be more proud of every one of our players, they all stepped up and gave it there all in a game played in the mud," Hornets coach Ariel Valentine said. "Our defense played solid."
Elkins is now 3-1-2 and will visit Buckhannon-Upshur this evening.
The Hornets will next play at home Tuesday in a rematch against West.
