EHS runners compete in Nike Southeast Regional Championship

CARY, N.C.--Elkins High School junior Josh Bodkins saved his best cross-country race for the postseason. After finishing as the number three runner on the AA State Champion EHS boys team three weeks prior, Bodkins shaved 40 seconds off of his fastest time with a 15:55 clocking in Saturday's Nike Southeast Regional Championship.
Bodkins' effort over the 5-kilometer WakeMed Soccer Complex course put him in 23rd place out of 993 runners in the Open Invitational division.
Other Tiger boys competing in the event included Trevor George (16:19), Gavin Brown (16:50), Treven Schaefer (17:40), and Bobby Valentine (18:42).
For the Lady Tigers, sophomore Julia Biola posted a time of 19:43 in the Open Invitational girls race to knock 30 seconds off of her previous best.
The Nike Cross Regional events serve as qualifiers for the Nike Cross Nationals race in Glendoveer, Oregon on December 7. The Southeast division features high school runners from Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, and the District of Columbia.
