Tucker erupts in second canto in win over Tigers

ELKINS — Tucker County displayed why its the top-rated Class A squad in the state Saturday night in claiming a 70-38 win over Elkins inside Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

After the game was tied at 7-7 late in the first quarter, the Mountain went on a 7-3 surge to close the canto and went on to outscore the Tigers 26-2 in the second frame to open up a 40-12 halftime advantage.

All-stater Trevan Bonner fired in 25 points for Tucker County, while Sam Marks ande Mikey Mitchell added 12 apiece.

Levi Wanless had 14 points for Elkins, which is now 2-4 and is slated to face Fort Hill (Md.) at noon today at Trinity High School.

The Mountain Lions host Grafton on Tuesday.
