Matthews erupts for 41 as Tucker bests Lady Vikings

PETERSBURG — Raven Matthews erupted for 41 points to lead Class A, No. 3 Tucker County to a 65-55 win over Petersburg on Friday night.

The 6-foot senior reigning all-state second-team captain netted 24 points over the first two quarters as the Lady Mountain Lions led 19-15 after one canto and 34-23 at halftime.

The advantage grew to 51-37 after three quarters.

MaKenna Evans and Mayah Gross contributed 10 points apiece for Tucker County.

The Lady Vikings placed three players in double figures as well, led by Ayden Mayfield with 15.

Shyane Tawney chipped in 13 and Miley Tingler 12.

The Lady Mountain Lions are now 13-5 and will visit Big 10 Conference school Fairmont Senior at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. They are scheduled to conclude the regular season Thursday at home against Moorefield.

Petersburg dropped to 9-10 and entertains Pendleton County on Tuesday night.
