Elkins’ Belan named Big 10 co-Player of the Year
B-U’s Abel, Philip Barbour’s Knotts earn first-team honors

ELKINS -- Elkins High School's Maddie Belan and Grafton's Kenna Keener have been named the Big 10 Conference's co-Players of the Year.
Belan, a senior, averaged 20.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.5 steals for the Lady Tigers, who advanced to the regional finals.
She went over 1,000 points for her career in the regional-opening win over Fairmont Senior, and was second in both Class AAA and the Big 10 in scoring.
Belan scored over 30 points in three games this season.
Buckhannon-Upshur's Alyssa Abel and Philip Barbour's Izzy Knotts landed on the first team.
Abel, a senior, forward finished as a 1,000-point career scorer for the Lady Bucs, while Knotts, a sophomore forward, averaged 13.4 points in helping the Lady Colts advance to the state tournament.
The remainder of the first unit includes East Fairmont's Kailee Haymond, Emma Moore and Kasey Rogers, Grafton's Hadley Horne, North Marion's Brooklyn Jackson, Lewis County's Ella Pinkney and Payten Goodwin, Fairmont Senior's Maliyah Young, Preston's Bella Miller and Lincoln's Sadie Adams.
The Lady Tigers also placed junior Emma Gilbert on the second team, along with Philip Barbour sophomore Finley Carpenter.
The remainder of the second unit includes Bridgeport's Reese Pierce and Kloey Martinez, North Marion's Savannah Walls, Grfton's Natalie Beltner and Jazzy Ray, Robert C. Byrd's Jada Sutherlin, Lewis County's Bryn Hunt and Alexis Piggie, Preston's Kendra Nazelrod and Liberty's Gabby Forman.
Grafton's Hartsel Keener was tabbed the league's Coach of the Year.
