Abel hits grand slam as Lady Bucs get past Lady Tigers

Lady Colts, Lady Mountain Lions earn wins

TENNERTON -- Buckhannon-Upshur scored six runs in the fifth inning and Alyssa Abel cracked a grand slam to get past Elkins, 13-7, on Thursday night.

Abel went 3 for 4, hitting her slam in the first inning to give the Lady Bucs a 4-0 lead.

But the Lady Tigers answered in the third when Addison Carr cracked a three-run homer to center to make it 4-3.

Elkins later dented the scoreboard for four runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-5 advantage.

B-U put up two runs in the fourth, before the fifth-inning outburst.

Maddy Tucker had a two-run triple and Reagan Mason an RBI single and Becca Pastorius RBI singles for B-U in the fifth.

Rileigh Wingfield had a two-run double in the fourth to give Elkins a 6-5 lead and Maddie Lambert followed with an RBI single.

Avery Hamer's run-producing single and an error allowed B-U to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.

Pastorius went all seven innings to earn the win, allowing 10 hits, three earned runs and fanning seven.

Carr, Lambert and Gabby Mahanes all saw time on the hill for Elkins.

Hailey Riffle, Maddy Shreve and Carr all finished with two hits in the loss.

B-U will visit Grafton at 6 p.m. Monday.

Elkins is scheduled to host Calhoun County at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

PB 10, Fairmont Senior 2

PHILIPPI -- Payton McDaniel drove in four runs to lift Philip Barbour to a 10-2 win over Fairmont Senior Thursday evening in Big 10 Conference action.

Lindsey Moss added two RBIs for the Lady Colts, while Payton Holbert cracked an RBI double.

Avery McDaniel went all five innings for the win. She gave up two hits, struck out eight and didn't issue a walk.

Kyle Dodd took the loss.

Philip Barbour (6-8-1) visits Moorefield at 6 p.m. today.

Tucker 12, Tygarts Valley 4

PARSONS -- Tucker County collected 14 hits en route to a 12-4 win over Tygarts Valley on Thursday night.

Sutton Pase had three RBIs for the Lady Mountain Lions. Ava Shaffer added two doubles

Peyton Hicks went all five innings to garner the win. She gave two hits and struck out eight and all four runs were unearned.

Kailen Yokum had an RBI for the Lady Bulldogs, who fell to 3-8 and visit Valley-Wetzel on Saturday for a doubleheader.

Tucker County is now 5-5 and travels to Pendleton County on Monday.
