Colts continue winning ways, blank Indians

PHILIPPI -- Philip Barbour continued its winning ways -- along with stellar pitching -- in a 7-0 win over Bridgeport Friday in Big 10 Conference action.
Nick Gonzales limited the Indians to just three hits in going the first five innings, and Landyn Carpenter twirled two hitless frames to lead the Colts, who have won six straight games to improve to 14-2 overall and 6-2 in Big 10 action.
Philip Barbour plated a single run in the first when Gonzales cracked a lead-off double to right and advanced to third on an error.
Kale Wolfe then lofted a sacrifice fly to left to plate Gonzales.
The score remained 1-0 until the Colts dented the scoreboard for three runs in the third.
Slaton Harris started the rally with a one-out double and Gonzales was hit-by-a-pitch.
Wolfe then laced a single to right to bring in Harris.
One out later, Tyler Sisson scored Gonzales to make it 3-0, and Kent Rowan followed with another single to plate Wolfe.
Grant Harris added an RBI single in the fifth, with Cam Bennett also scoring on the play on an error..
Carson Curren was tagged with the loss, allowing seven runs on 10 hits in going five innings. He struck out five and didn't issue a walk.
Kasen Baun and Owen Sondericker each doubled for Bridgeport in the setback.
Wolfe, Slaton Harris and Sisson had two hits apiece for Philip Barbour.
The Colts were slated to host Tucker County in Friday's late game but the contest was cancelled.
They will entertain Doddrige County at 6 p.m. Monday.
The Indians, who were coming off a 13-12 win over Robert C. Byrd on Thursday, dropped to 15-6 on the season.
