Marple, Bucs outslug Tigers in Big 10 play

TENNERTON — Landon Marple went 3 for 3 and drove in six runs as Buckhannon-Upshur outslugged Elkins, 20-10, Thursday night at William E. Phillips Memorial Field in Big 10 Conference action.

The Bucs erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the second, with Marple cracking a two-run homer and Jevon Westfall and Jaxon Spratt collecting run-producing singles to highlight the scoring.

The Tigers answered with four runs of their own in the third as Trent Stone’s double chased home Brayden Biller and Braden Cooper, Dyer Barger added an RBI single and Alex Broschart drew a bases-loaded free pass.

B-U tacked on four runs in the home-half of the frame, three in the fourth and five more in the fifth to end the game early due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Stone finished with three RBIs for Elkins, while Owen Stanley had a pair of hits and two RBIs.

Brody McDaniels added three RBIs for the Bucs, who improved to 6-5 and will travel to Grafton at 5:30 p.m. Monday for a Big 10 contest.

The Tigers fell to 2-11 and will play a pair of games on Saturday.

They will battle Doddridge County 2:30 p.m. and the host Bearcats at 5:30 p.m.
