MOOREFIELD -- Philip Barbour and Tucker County began play in the Bub Riggleman Memorial Softball Tournament on Friday.
A total of 14 teams are competing in the event, with the championship game set for 7 p.m. today.
The Lady Colts claimed a 9-5 win over Greenbrier West in their first game on Friday as Katelyn Cooper had a three-run homer and a two-run double.
Avery McDaniel earned the win on the mound. She gave up five hits and three earned runs, striking out 11 and walking two in going the distance.
Olivia Wilmoth and Lindsey Moss also had two hits apiece in the win.
Madalyn Fields cracked a two-run homer and tallied four RBIs for the Lady Cavaliers.
In Friday's late game, Philip Barbour and Musselman battled to a 7-7 deadlock.
The Lady Colts trailed 7-5 before plating two runs in the bottom of the seventh to salvage the tie.
McDaniel's homer to center cut the lead to 7-6, then Cooper scored the tying run.
But Musselman got a double play to end the game.
McDaniel also cracked a solo homer in the bottom of the third and finished 3 for 3 at the plate.
Payton McDaniel added two RBIs and Payton Holbert and Cooper two hits apiece.
Avery McDaniel had eight strikeouts in going all seven innings.
Tucker County, meanwhile, regrouped from a 13-3 loss to Spring Mills earlier in the day to claim an 8-5 victory over Big 10 Conference member North Marion.
The Lady Mountain Lions had 11 hits in the victory over the Lady Huskies as Peyton Hicks had a three-run triple in the second to give Tucker County a 4-0 lead.
Ava Shaffer added a two-run double in the third.
Hicks went 3 for 4 on the day, while Shaffer and Carlee Nicholson added two hits apiece and Sutton Pase an RBI double in the first inning.
Bella Talkington had three RBIs for North Marion, including a two-run homer.
Hicks was the winning pitcher, allowing five runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out six and not issuing a walk.
Shaffer went the final two frames, giving up just one hit and striking out three.
Rayden Satterfield was tagged with the loss.
In the loss to Spring Mills, Hicks, Pase and Reagan Herron had RBIs. Hicks tallied two safeties.
