PARKERSBURG -- Elkins High School's 4×800 meter relay team established a new meet record with a time of 4:28.73 at Parkersburg High School's Kim Nutter Invitational on Friday night. Members of the winning EHS boys relay included Josh Bodkins, Gavin Brown, Bobby Valentine, and Trevor George.

George then doubled back on short rest to pick up another win in the 1600 meter run in a personal best time of 4:26.

The EHS boys scored in all of their relays. Members of the third place Tiger 4×100 (45.71) squadron included JJ Cepeda, Chris See, Randal Marks, and DeMarcus Franklin. See and Franklin also teamed up with Johnathan Dean and Andres Masten to take fourth in the 4×200 (1:37.63).

Masten later helped the shuttle hurdle (1:05.82) and 4×400 (3:44.05) relays to respective fifth and sixth place finishes. His shuttle teammates included Cepeda, Rowan, and Marks. Dean, Isaac Reel, and Bodkins rounded out the EHS 4×400 team.

Other individual scorers for the boys included Brown's third place in the 3200 (10:07.12), Bodkins' fourth place in the 800 (2:04.10), See's fifth place in the 100 meter dash (11.58), and Masten's eighth place in the 300 hurdles (43.81).

Overall, the EHS boys took fifth out of 12 teams with 55 points. Huntington won the meet with 140 points and Parkersburg was the runner-up with 130.

"I thought we had a solid team performance against some tough competition," said EHS boys coach Shane Richardson. "We proved that Elkins can compete with some of the state's best."

For the EHS girls, Emilia Tenney bested a talented field of 26 competitors in the 1600 meter run. Tenney established a new personal best time of 5:18.06 to notch her win.

"It was great to see Emilia pick up that win," commented EHS girls coach Scott Biola. "She executed a perfect race plan by going out smart, attacking the middle laps, and then dropped the hammer in the last lap."

Other individual scorers for the EHS girls included Marissa Brenwalt, who took second in the 100 hurdles (16.85), and Julia Biola, who took sixth in the 1600 in 5:31.42.

Brenwalt also helped the 4×100 (55.52) and 4×200 (1:57.84) relays finish fifth and third, respectively. Aubrey Currence, Savannah Rowan, and Maddie Belan also contributed to both of those Tiger sprint relays.

To close the night, Rowan and Belan joined Tenney and Biola for a fifth place finish in the 4×400 (4:37.47).
