WEST UNION–Marissa Brenwalt and Emilia Tenney set two more meet records in route to the Elkins High School girls track team’s fourth place finish at Doddridge County’s Cline Stansberry Invitational.

Brenwalt’s record came in the preliminary heat of Friday’s 100 hurdles, in which she cruised to a 15.30. She later clipped a hurdle in the finals to place seventh in that event. Not to be deterred, she cleared 5-0 to win the high jump, took fifth in the 200 (27.86), and placed second in the 300 hurdles (48.95).

Tenney’s meet record came by way of a win in the 800 meter run (2:22.29). Tenney also contributed to a second place finish in the 4×800 (10:11.20) and a third in the 4×400 (4:36.02) relays.

For both of those relays, Tenney’s teammates included Julia Biola, Maddie Belan, and Emma Gilbert.

“This was Maddie’s first time racing 800 meters,” said EHS girls Coach Scott Biola. “She really helped make that relay more competitive.”

The Tiger girls scored in each of the relay events with the 4×100 meter relay (57.16) taking seventh and the 4×200 (2:02.18) and shuttle hurdle (1:24.19) relays both taking eighth. In the 4×100 and 4×200, Belan and Gilbert teamed up with Aubrey Currence and Savannah Rowan while the EHS shuttle squad consisted of Raighan Hall Carte, Shyla Dominguez, Novalee Lariviare, and Adeline Naser.

The EHS boys also took fourth in the 18-team meet by way of balanced individual and relay scoring. Josh Bodkins was key on both of those fronts, with a second place finish in the 3200 (10:06.44) and a role in the Tigers’ winning 4×400 meter relay (3:36.86). That foursome also included Trevor George, Johnathan Dean, and Andrés Masten.

Elkins’ George also took fourth in the 1600 (4:26.36) with teammate Gavin Brown trailing closely in fifth (4:30.29).

Masten was part of three other EHS relays that each took second place: the 4×100 (45.05), the 4×200 (1:32.82), and the shuttle hurdles (1:05.79). Other members of the EHS 4×100 included JJ Cepeda, Chris See, and DeMarcus Franklin. Masten, See, and Franklin also teamed with Dean on the 4×200. Finally, Logan Rowan and Elias Jones joined with Masten and Cepeda on the shuttles.

Other individual scorers for the Tiger boys included Randal Marks in the high jump (fifth, 5-4) as well as Bobby Valentine (fourth, 2:03.91), Ben Tenney (sixth, 2:05.84), and Brown (eighth, 2:06.54) in the 800 meter run.

“This was a great night all around for both teams,” commented EHS boys coach Shane Richardson. “We will fine-tune over our bye week and be ready for Big 10.”

Indeed, the EHS track teams will be idle this week before returning to action on May 7 at the Big 10 Championships.

Starting at $3.92/week.
