Tigers split a pair games in Saturday play

GRAFTON -- Blayne Thompson homered and finished with four RBIs as Elkins claimed a 14-10 win over Grafton on Saturday.

The Tigers led 11-4 but the Bearcats scored six runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to one.

Elkins answered with four more runs in the seventh inning.

Thompson had a two-run homer in the fourth and a two-run single in the seventh.

Owen Stanley had a solo homer in the sixth and Michael Love a two-run single in the third.

Isaac Shepler earned the win, allowing three runs on one hit in 2 1/3 innings of relief. He struck out four and walked five.

Brayden Biller and Trent Stone also saw time on the hill.

Thompson and Stanley finished with three hits each for the Tigers.

Levi Newlon had four RBIs for the Bearcats.

Mason Gray was tagged with the loss.

In Saturday's first game in Grafton, the Tigers dropped a 5-2 verdict to Doddridge County.

Josh Dehaven earned the win for the Bulldogs, going all seven innings, allowing two unearned runs on nine hits, striking out three and not walking a batter.

Caleb McCauley took the loss. He gave up three runs on five hits in five innings, striking out two and walking two.

Biller and Stone had two hits each for Elkins.

The Tigers (3-12) are slated to entertain Bridgeport at 6 p.m. today.
