SOUTH CHARLESTON -- Baylee Beachler limited state powerhouse Wahama to just two hits as Pendleton County advanced to the Class A state title game with a 6-0 victory Wednesday night at Little Creek Park.
The Lady Wildcats (31-2) will now face the winner of today's elimination game between Wahama (28-7) and Greenbrier West (19-9) at 2:30 p.m. today, needing just one victory to secure the title.
A deciding game will follow, if necessary.
Beachler fanned eight and didn't issue a walk against the Lady White Falcons -- seeking a fourth title over the past five years.
Pendleton County, which is making its first appearance in the state tourney in 10 years, led 1-0 before Avery Townsend hit a two-run homer in the fifth.
The Lady Wildcats tacked on three key insurance runs an inning later on a two-run error and an RBI double by Chesnee Colaw.
Elissa Hoffman took the loss, going all six innings and giving up four hits and striking out nine.
The Lady Wildcats moved to the winner's bracket with a 12-0 win over Trinity Christian earlier in the day as Beachler and Susan Vincell combined on a three-hitter.
Beachler went the first four innings, allowing just one hit, striking seven and walking four.
Vincell gave up two hits and fanned three in working the last two frames.
Beachler helped her cause with four RBIs, including a two-run homer in the first.
Townsend went 3 for 3 with four RBIs and a triple, while Jenna Smith and Julia Mongold added RBIs.
Peyton Moore, Josalyn Phillips and Arlie Humphreys had singles for the Lady Warriors, making their first-ever state tourney appearance.
Olivia Timperio went the first two innings in taking the loss.
