Bulldogs beat Mountain Lions to advance to regional final

MILL CREEK -- Top-seed Tygarts Valley secured the top bracket of the Class A, Region II tourney with a 14-2 win over fifth-seed Tucker County on Monday evening.

The Bulldogs (18-7) will now face third-seed East Hardy in a best-of-three series, with the winner moving on to the state tournament.

The Cougars advanced from the bottom bracket of the tourney by defeating second-seed Pendleton County on Saturday.

Jacob Wamsley hit a three-run homer as part of an eight-run first inning and finished with four RBIs in Monday's win.

Tygarts Valley added five runs in the third and one in the fourth as the game was halted after the top of the fifth due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Adam Woods and Ian Harris added run-producing singles in the first for the Bulldogs and two runs crossed on an error.

Wamsley, Kaden Moore and Austin Teter had RBI singles in the third, while Kendall Armstrong an RBI groundout.

Jaxon Drennen lofted an RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Harris went the first two innings to earn the win, allowing one runs on three hits and striking out four.

Armstrong and Moore finished in relief.

Armstrong went two hitless frames, fanning three and Moore one inning, giving up one run on two hits and striking out two.

Joss Crossland, Blake Helmick, Reece Poling, Owen Helmick and Ty Ricottilli had hits for Tucker County, which took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

Crossland and Owen Helmick tallied the RBIs in the setback.

Owen Helmick took the loss on the mound.
