Elkins pulls away for 9-3 win over RCB

CLARKSBURG -- Elkins tallied eight runs over the fourth and fifth innings to capture a 9-3 win over Robert C. Byrd Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference action.

The Tigers trailed 2-1 before tallying three runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth to take a 9-2 cushion.

Trevor Hogue had a two-run single and Dyer Barger raced home on an error in the fourth, while Hogue, Owen Stanley and Isaac Shepler had run-producing singles in the fifth, Michael Love an RBI fielder's choice and Drew Hinzman a bases-loaded walk.

Brayden Biller went the first four innings to earn the win, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out two and walking four.

Hinzman finished in relief, giving up one run on three hits, fanning seven and issuing four free passes.

Brody Lane surrendered four runs on five hits over three innings in taking the loss. He struck out three and walked four.

Anderson Levake went 2 for 4 for the Flying Eagles, with J.D, Ford and Saverio Destito collecting RBIs.

Elkins (5-16) hosts Fairmont Senior at 5:30 p.m. on Friday for another conference contest.
