Grafton ends Lady Tigers’ postseason run

Lady Bulldogs eliminated by top-seed Pendleton County in Class A

GRAFTON — Elkins High’s run in the Class AAA, Region II, Section 1 tourney came to a conclusion in an 11-0 loss to top-seed Grafton on Saturday.

The fourth-seeded Lady Tigers had stayed alive in the postseason with wins at third-seed East Fairmont and No. 2 Fairmont Senior after falling to Grafton to begin sectional play.

But the Lady Bearcats used a five-inning two-hitter from Lillie Crimm to end Elkins’ season and secure the sectional banner,

Crimm struck out 10 and walked just one.

Grafton took a 1-0 lead in the first on Crimm’s RBI double.

The Lady Bearcats then plated four runs in the second and five more in the third to open up a 10-lead.

Lydia Wildroudt and Bella Hayhurst had run-producing singles in the third, while Crimm an RBI sacrifice fly and Ruth Horne a bases-loaded walk in the second.

Four errors led to the other runs for Grafton in the second and third frames.

Addison Carr had both of the hits for the Lady Tigers.

Maddie Lambert worked three innings for Elkins and Carr one.

Lambert finished with three strikeouts and Carr fanned one.

Hayhurst had a pair of hits for the Lady Bearcats, who advance to face section 1 victor Weir in the best-of-three regional finals.

The Lady Tigers finished the season 10-14.

Pendleton 22, TV 3

FRANKLIN — Top-seed Pendleton County secured the Class A, Region II, Section 2 title with a 22-3 win over second-seed Tygarts Valley on Saturday.

The Lady Wildcats will now face section 1 winner Tucker County in a best-of-three regional final, while the Lady Bulldogs ended the season 7-14.

A 13-run fourth inning fueled Pendleton County in Saturday’s win.

Baylee Beachler had a three-run homer in the uprising. Julia Mongold added a two-run triple, Avery Townsend a two-run inside-the-park homer, Chesnee Colaw two RBIs on a single and bases-loaded walk, Jaiden Mitts an RBI single and Susan Vincell a bases-loaded free pass.

Jessica Parker, Townsend, Beeachler, Mongold and Colaw all had three RBIs for the Lady Wildcats. Parker and Mitts finished with three hits apiece.

Addie Riddle had an RBI single for Tygarts Valley. Kailen Yokum added a triple and Emily Smith a single.

Alyssa Swecker was tagged with the loss.

Vincell earned the win in going the first two innings, fanning four.
