Lady Mountain Lions win sectional title

PARSONS — Tucker County captured the Class A, Region II, Section 1 title with a 10-5 win over East Hardy Thursday night at Camp Kidd.

The Lady Mountain Lions swept the best-of-three series and now face either Pendleton County or Tygarts Valley in the regional final series.

The second-seeded Lady Bulldogs stayed alive in the section 2 tourney by eliminating third-seed Pocahontas County 21-6 on Friday night.

They will now visit top-seed Pendleton County today, needing two wins to win the sectional crown.

Sutton Pase had six RBIs for Tucker County in Thursday’s win over the Lady Cougars.

East Hardy took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning but the Lady Mountain Lions responded with four runs in the home-half of the frame.

Pase had a two-run single, Bella Loucks a run-producing single and Reagan Herron an RBI groundout.

In the second inning, Pase delivered an RBI double to extend the lead to 5-1.

East Hardy picked up an RBI single by Ginger Combs in the third inning.

Another RBI groundout from Herron and MaKenna Evan’s run-producing single gave Tucker County a 7-2 lead in the bottom of third.

Pase added an RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth before the Lady Cougars scored a pair of runs on errors in the fifth to cut the lead in half.

But Pase’s two-run double in the home-half of the inning made it 10-4.

Taylor McReynolds added an RBI single in the seventh for East Hardy.

Ava Shaffer and Pase finished with three hits for the Lady Mountain Lions. Evans and Loucks had two hits apiece.

April Dove led East Hardy with two hits. Gracie Heishman had an RBI double in the first.

Shaffer allowed four unearned runs on three hits over 4 2/3 innings to earn the win. She struck out five and walked one. Peyton Hicks finished in relief, giving up one unearned run on four hits and fanning four.
