Lady Tigers place second in regional meet
Brenwalt and Tenney capture three events each
RACHEL — Marissa Brenwalt and Emilia Tenney each won three events as the Elkins High School girls finished as runner-ups in the Class AAA, Region I track meet Wednesday at North Marion.
Brenwalt qualified for the state meet in four different events.
The freshman was the regional champion in the high jump (5-04), long jump (16-09) and 100-meter hurdles (15.31). She finished second in the 300 hurdles (48.43).
Tenney, a sophomore, captured the 3,200 (11:40.76), 1,600 (5:23.89) and 800 (2:23.55).
Sophomore Julia Biola qualified for states in the 3,200 by placing second behind Tenney in a time of 11:51.15.
Biola also teamed with Tenney and seniors Maddie Belan and Mallory Bennett to finish second in the 4×800 in a time of 10:19.86.
Senior Katherine Hinchman was fourth in the discus (95-06) for the Lady Tigers, who finished with 115 points.
Williamstown won the regional crown with 153 points.
East Fairmont (108.50) was third, followed by Grafton (79), Wheeling Central (76), Weir (69), Oak Glen (49) and North Marion (46.50).
The top two individuals and relays from each region advance to the state meet slated to be held May 23-24 at University of Charleston Stadium at Laidley Field.
The remaining eight spots earn at-large berths from the all four region meets based on fastest times and distances.
