Postseason for prep baseball has arrived

ELKINS -- High school baseball postseason action was slated to get underway Monday around the state.
With sectional play for baseball a thing of the past, all teams in each region are broken down into two brackets -- a top and bottom -- in the double-elimination format.
The victors in each bracket move on to a best-of-three regional final.
Elkins is the seventh seed in the Class AAA, Region I tourney and was slated to visit No. 2 Fairmont Senior on Monday.
No. 6 Weir ventured to No. 3 Grafton in the other bottom bracket contest.
No. 5 East Fairmont and No. 4 North Marion were slated to meet in the top bracket opener, with the victor traveling to top-seed Brooke today.
Buckhannon-Upshur is seeded fifth in the Class AAAA, Region I tourney and was slated to visit No. 4 John Marshall on Monday in a top bracket matchup.
The winner travels to top-seed Wheeling Park today.
The bottom of bracket matchups in this region include No. 6 Preston at No. 3 University, with the victor traveling to No. 2 Morgantown today.
Philip Barbour is the top seed in the Class AA, Region II tournament and is slated to host the winner of Monday's contest between No. 5 Ritchie County at No. 4 Doddridge County this evening.
The bottom bracket games slated for Monday included No. 7 Moorefield at No. 2 South Harrison and No. 6 Braxton County at No. 3 Petersburg.
Tygarts Valley also earned the top seed in the Class A, Region II tourney.
The Bulldogs are slated to host the winner of Monday's game between No. 5 Tucker County at No. 4 Pocahontas County today.
In the bottom bracket of the region, No. 3 East Hardy and No. 2 Pendleton County battle in a best-of-three series, which was slated to get underway on Monday.
