Colts battle Logan tonight

CHARLESTON -- Third-seed Philip Barbour and second-seed Logan both enter the Class AA state tournament with momentum.
The teams battle 50 minutes after the conclusion of today's first semifinal game between top seed Wheeling Central and No. 4 Wyoming East, which gets underway at 5 p.m. from GoMart Ballpark.
The Colts, making their first state appearance since 1975, went 4-0 in regional action, behind strong pitching and timely hitting, while the Wildcats defeated defending state champion Charleston Catholic in the best-of-three regional series.
Philip Barbour (22-6) is led in hitting by sophomore Landyn Carpenter, senior Tyler Sisson and junior Kale Wolfe.
Carpenter is hitting at a .405 clip with 25 RBIs.
Sisson, a reigning all-state first-team selection, has a .400 batting average and leads the team with three homers, and Wolfe is hitting .385.
Wolfe, meanwhile, has been on target during the postseason, winning two of the Colts' four games, allowing just one run and striking out 18 batters.
Senior Grant Harris is responsible for the other two victories for Philip Barbour in postseason play.
Depending on the pitching duties, the projected starting lineup for the Colts will be sophomore Anthony Mosesso at first, sophomore Slaton Harris at second, Carpenter at shortstop and either Grant Harris or freshman Robbie Jones at third.
Senior Nick Gonzales, sophomore Kent Rowan and either Wolfe or Jones will flank the outfield.
Sisson will be behind the plate, while senior Jack Wilson has been serving as the team's designated hitter.
Jonathon Carpenter serves as Philip Barbour's head coach.
Logan, which has won eight state titles in school history, enters the state tournament with a 27-4 mark under coach Kevin Gertz.
The state tourney begins at 10 a.m. today in Class A semifinal play as No. 4 Webster County meets top-seed Madonna and No. 3 East Hardy squares off against Gilmer County 50 minutes after the conclusion of that contest.
