Belington-Barbour County captures both titles; Elkins 8-10s earn state berth

HUTTONSVILLE -- Belington-Barbour County captured both the 10-12-year-old and 8-10-year-old District 8 titles over the weekend at Tygart Valley Fields.
The 10-12-year-old squad used strong pitching en route to the title, not allowing a run in three wins, including a 10-0 victory over Tygart Valley in Saturday afternoon's title game.
The contest concluded on Saturday after being delayed due to lightning on Friday night.
Summersville defeated Tygart Valley, 7-3, on Sunday to earn the other state berth as the district runner-up.
Summersville had defeated Pocahontas County, 3-2, on Friday night.
The 10-12-year-old state tournament begins play July 12 at Melvin Heckel Fields at Riverbend Park in Elkins.
The Belington-Barbour County 8-10s defeated Elkins, 14-2, on Friday to win the district banner.
Elkins also earned a berth to the state tourney as the runner-ups by defeating Tucker County, 4-3, on Sunday.
Tucker County defeated Braxton County, 12-11, on Saturday.
The 8-10-year-old state tourney will get underway Friday in Huntington.
