Lady Mountain Lions place two on PVC first team

Tygarts Valley’s Emily Smith named to league’s second unit

PARSONS -- Tucker County's Peyton Hicks and Ava Shaffer have named to the all-Potomac Valley Conference first team.

Hicks and Shaffer helped lead the Lady Mountain Lions to a sectional title and berth in the regional finals, where they fell to eventual Class A state champion Pendleton County.

The Lady Wildcats placed four players on the first unit -- Baylee Beachler, Avery Townsend, Lizzy Alt and Jenna Smith.

Two-time Class AA state runner-up Petersburg was represented on the first team by Shyane Tawney, Miley Tingler, Ella Chew, Ella Markwell and Addie Kitzmiller.

East Hardy's Addison Armentrout rounded out the first unit.

The second team included Tygarts Valley's Emily Smith, Tucker County's Sutton Pase and MaKenna Evans, Pendleton County's Susan Vincell, Jess Parker, Chesnee Colaw and Jaiden Mitts, Petersburg's Abi Nettles, Sissy Cole and Gracie Carpenter, East Hardy's Ginger Combs and Gracie Heishman.

Pendleton County, which defeated Wahama last week in South Charleston to win the crown, swept the postseason awards.

Beachler, who has signed to play at Robert Morris, was named the league's Player of the Year, Eric Crites the Coach of the Year and the Lady Wildcats the Team of the Year.

Pendleton County finished the season with a 32-2 record.

Beachler was also named to the Class A all-tourney team, along with Townsend, Alt, Vincell and Julia Mongold.

Oak Glen defeated Petersburg to win the state championship.

Tawney, Tingler and Chew represented Petersburg on the Class AA all-tournament team.
