MORGANTOWN — Dominick Bombardiere twirled a six-hit shutout as third-seed Clarksburg Post 13 eliminated fourth-seed Buckhannon Post 7 from the American Legion Area 2 tournament with a 9-0 victory Wednesday night at Dale Miller Field at Mylan Park.

Post 7 ended the season with a 2-17 record.

Bombardiere struck out four and didn’t issue a walk on the evening.

Clarksburg led 2-0 before erupting for seven runs in the sixth inning.

Jovanni Minnocci’s bases-clearing triple highlighted the outburst, while Nathan Whiteman had a two-run single and Bombardiere Landon Frazier run-scoring doubles.

Will McPherson took the loss for Post 7, going the first five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, fanning two and walking five.

Nick Gonzales and Jacob Wamsley had two hits each for Buckhannon Post 7.

Post 13 will now face second-seed Bridgeport at 4 p.m. today in an elimination game.

Top-seed Morgantown used three RBIs each from Tommy Montague and Daniel Grabo to outslug Bridgeport, 12-9, in Wednesday’s late game to take the driver’s seat in the tourney.

Nate Wolfe also went 3 for 3 on the night.

Mark Biafore and Matt Masters had two RBIs each for Post 68 in the setback.

Post 2, which had 11 hits on the night and jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, will face the winner between Bridgeport and Clarksburg at 7 p.m. today in the title game.

A win gives Morgantown the title, while a loss will force a second championship contest to be held at 7 p.m. on Friday.
