ELKINS — Winfield scored eight runs over the final two innings to pull away from Belington-Barbour County, 11-4, Tuesday night in 10-12-year-old Little League state tourney action at Melvin Heckel Fields at River Bend Park.

Belington was eliminated from the tournament.

Carter Morrison had a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to give Belington a 2-1 lead.

Winfield tacked on two runs in the second to take the lead for good before a weather delay.

Morrison and Callen Cherok had two hits each for Belington in the setback.

Morrison and Cherok added RBI doubles in the sixth inning.

Ryder Kirkpatrick, Scott Wright, Easton Workman and Ryan Bolyard added hits in the setback.

Belington-Barbour County finished the season as the District 8 champions.

Winfield will now face Fringe or Huntington at 8:30 p.m. today in another elimination contest.

Games in the state tournament were postponed on Monday night due to the weather.

In Tuesday’s other contest, Central Greenbrier rallied for a 5-4 win to eliminate Summersville.

Tuesday’s late games slated were Huntington vs. Fringe and Hurricane vs. Logan.
