PHILIPPI -- The Elkins High School golf team opened the season with a win over Philip Barbour Thursday at the Barbour Country Club Golf Course.

The Tigers, who were hit hard by graduation, carded a 181 to the Colts' 199.

"Losing five seniors from last year, we had a lot of new faces playing their first varsity action," EHS coach Dave Baird said. "There were a lot of nerves out there on challenging greens."

Senior Dreyton Boggs and sophomore Kendrick Smith tallied 44s to share low-medalist honors for the Tigers, while junior Isaac Shepler had a 46, junior Lincoln Fletcher a 47 and junior Luca Collier a 47.

Senior Mattox Satterfield paced the Colts with a 45, followed by junior Anthony Mosesso (46) and freshman Owen Hart (52).

Elkins begins the home slate Wednesday at the Elks Golf Course against Robert C. Byrd and Moorefield.
