Tiger golfers place fifth at Valley View
Bulldogs capture match at the Raven; EMS booters best B-UMS
MOOREFIELD — Elkins placed fifth among 13 teams in an 18-hold match Monday at Valley View Golf Club.
Luca Collier paced the Tigers, who had a team-total 344, with a 78, followed by Kendrick Smith (84), Lincoln Fletcher (31) and Dreyton Boggs and Isaac Shepler with 92s.
Petersburg (297) took team honors, with Strasburg (Va.) (318), Hampshire (321) and Keyser (341) rounding out the top five.
The remainder of the field included Martinsburg (353), Jefferson (364), Frankfort (370), Berkeley Springs (373), Moorefield (376), Central Woodstock (Va.) (379), Philip Barbour (390) and East Hardy (421).
Tucker County didn’t field a full team.
“Valley View has some holes on the course that if you haven’t played the course you’re not sure how to attack it,” Tigers coach Dave Baird said. “This is a golf course we have not played as a team and we struggled big time on the back nine today.
“Luca is continuing to play well lately and as we go to Preston (Tuesday), hopefully he continues his good play.”
Bulldogs win match
SNOWSHOE — Tygarts Valley captured a five-team match Monday at the Raven Golf Club.
The Bulldogs a team-total 189, followed by Pendleton County (192), Webster County and Union (265).
Pocahontas County competed didn’t field a full squad.
TV’s Alijah Row-Sponaugle fired a 42 to earn-low medalist laurels. Other Bulldog scores included Cooper Markley (48), Mason Phillips (49), Parker Bell (50), Owen Bell (55) and Jakub Rader (57).
Landon Davis led Pendleton County with a 43, Warren Burns’ 47 paced Pocahontas County, Maddox Brown had a 53 for Webster County and Braylon Ward carded a 61 for Union.
Middle school soccer
Hornets best B-UMS
ELKINS — Eli Smith had a pair of goals to lead the Elkins Middle School boys soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Buckhannon-Upshur Monday night.
Samuel Belan added a score off a free kick for the Hornets, while Maddox Crawford and Griffin Reeseman provided assists on Smith’s goals.
EMS travels to Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. today.
