Tiger golfers place second in home finale
ELKINS — The Elkins High School golf team closed the home season by placing second in a four-team Big 10 Conference quad-match Wednesday at the Elks Course.
Grafton placed first with a 166 — four strokes better than the Tigers’ 170.
Lewis County (178) and North Marion (206) rounded out the scoring.
Luca Collier fired a 39 to pace Elkins, followed by Kendrick Smith and Lincoln Fletcher with 43s, Dreyton Boggs (45), Braden Cooper and William Kilgore with 46s, Isaac Shepler (47) and Blake Sears (48).
Grafton’s Mason Gray was low-medalist with a 38.
“The last home match did not go as planned,” Tigers coach Dave Baird said. “Grafton played well to beat us and was the better team.”
The Tigers’ regular season ends next week and they will get a rematch with Grafton before the Big 10 Conference Championship.
“Hopefully we are ready as postseason is nearing and we have the Cup 33 and the Big 10 Championship to defend,” Baird added. “Plus the opportunity to advance to states.”
